The secret is top-to-bottom, solid composition. When selecting a Mail Enhancement member, several things are essential:

Personality: We want people who mesh with our current guild well. We are all generally 20+ years od and are looking for people who are primarily good people. We all enjoy playing together. We don't allow the guild to define how / when we play WoW -- the guild complements how we play WoW. The key is understanding that this is a game first and foremost. Not a job, not a way of life, but just a game.

In terms of loot and materials, we expect members to be willing to help and be helped throughout the guild. We pass transmutes around, we send people their class belt/bracers when they drop, we help gather materials for other members, and we're genuinely happy when someone gets a drop that they really wanted.

Gameplay: Mail Enhancement embraces both PvP and PvE. We are the oldest and most stable guild on Gul'dan that isn't solely made of real-life friends. Our server reputation prior to the Burning Crusade was built around guild PvP, and much of it was because everyone knew and accepted their role in PvP and worked as a team. While we continue to participate in Arenas and Battlegrounds, our major focus right now is raiding more consistently: we plan to succeed in the content without the myriad problems that "raiding guilds" face.

The key to being a successful member of Mail Enhancement is the understanding that World of Warcraft is supposed to be fun. If at any point you're resenting the amount of time that the game takes or getting bored or whatever, take a break. We're not going to kick you. We understand that you have a real life. We all have kids, jobs, significant others, friends, and they all matter. Mail Enhancement is here to make sure that the time you spend playing World of Warcraft is as enjoyable as possible.
